FULLY OPEN IN SEPTEMBER

The Morristown Public Library Board of Trustees was hopeful that all temporary safety policies created in response to Covid-19 would have been able to be rescinded by the end of September. The current local rise of the Delta variant has deemed that impossible for the time being. In the meantime, the library is exceeding NYS Minimum Library Standards and is available for masked browsing and computer use its regular 31 hours per week. We look forward to safely serving all of our patrons’ needs!

TEMPORARY PLAN OF SERVICE

Morristown Public Library will open for limited services beginning June 15th, through a Resolution of the Morristown Public Library Phased Reopening Plan by the Board of Trustees approved on June 8th, 2020.

The library has developed six levels of service that align with state directives to keep patrons and staff safe. Please note that the library may have to move back and forth between levels of service depending on the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak.  The Board of Trustees will closely monitor progress through each of these phases and make all decisions based on safety, through data collected as mandated by law.

On June 15th, the library will roll out a new Grab-n-Go service, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 11 am until 2 pm. Patrons will be able to place holds for books and materials within Morristown’s local collection. When holds are ready, a library staff member will contact a patron to set up a non-contact pick-up time for their materials at the window near the entrance door.

If another patron is at the window when you arrive, we ask that you remain comfortably in your car until the window is free.  Physical distancing is required at all times, as “Creating an Attractive Nuisance” is currently against the law.

At this time, no one but staff will be allowed access to the building.  No services can be offered that require a patron to be inside of the building or to have physical contact with the staff.

Patrons will have access to placing holds and can either log onto the library’s catalog at www.ncls.org (link is external) or call the library at (315) 375-8833 to request materials.  Phone calls will be accepted at the library Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday between 10 and 11 am. Please note all requests must be for materials in our local collection at this time. We are not able to provide Interlibrary Loan services, as the NCLS delivery service has not yet been reinstated.

To protect our community and anyone vulnerable, all patrons must wear a mask while on the library premises.  If you have a condition that does not allow you to wear a face covering you must call the library during phone hours to make other arrangements.

Patrons will also be able to return materials in our drop box located outside of the main entry door.  All materials will be quarantined 72 hours before re-shelving.

Thank you, and we look forward to serving you!

TRUSTEES WORKING HARD TO REOPEN SAFELY

May 2020: The Trustees and Staff of the Morristown Public Library are working very hard to formulate a reopening plan within the boundaries of all local and state health and safety directives.  We share in your frustrations and want you to know that we are anxious to get back to regular operations!  Currently, the library is slated to open in Phase 4 of the Governor’s Reopening Plan.  No date has been determined.  We are bound by law to remain closed until given the go-ahead.  Watch this website for updates.  We do know this – reopening of the library will happen in stages and the first one will most likely be curbside-only by appointment.  Policies are being revised within the boundaries of law to protect both patrons and staff, policies that will modify our Summer Reading, Plein Air and Book Sale plans.
